During the Espoo-Suursaari offshore sailing race, a thunderstorm formed unexpectedly. In the beginning of the video you can see the wind and waves steadily increasing, and the crew barely managing to get the spinnaker down in time before the winds really start picking up. About a minute later they get the full force of the wind for a good 3 minutes, heeling the boat hard over starboard, and with lightning in the close vicinity. I’m sure this caused for some frightening and intense moments but the skipper and crew handled it very well. The headsail was less fortunate, it was split in half. The wooden boat named PAM is a 40ft S&S designed masthead-rigged sloop from 1966, sailing out of Helsinki, Finland, and skippered by Santtu Parikka.
